In case you’re wondering what those photos are all about, you’re...

In case you’re wondering what those photos are all about, you’re seeing images of what you can do on your own barbecue by using the latest barbecue gadget - the BBQ Grill Mat. These handy items haven’t been around that long but they are gaining in popularity very rapidly because they provide a whole new world of possibilities with the barbecue grill

Before the grill mats came along I never would have dreamed that I could cook an entire breakfast on the grill and so I had never gone out on the deck in the early morning and used the barbecue before. It’s such a pleasant time to cook outside and I have come to enjoy it immensely.

I got these Chef Caron grill mats for a Fathers’ Day gift and wasn’t even sure what the purpose of them was or what use they would be at first. After reading the instructions on the back of the package I had the “ah-ha moment.” I know, they aren’t that complicated. But keep in mind, I’ve been using my barbecue the same way to cook the same things for longer than most people who are reading this have been alive. I’m not kidding. We do get entrenched in our habits, that’s for sure. Even when I understood that you were supposed to just put the grill mats on the grate of the BBQ and cook on them, I was a bit resistant. It just seemed like it defeated the purpose of the whole barbecue experience, or at least changed it so much that it wasn’t even the same process anymore.

After I thought about it for a while I figured I’d better try it, since I didn’t want to offend my daughter who had excitedly given me the mats on Fathers’ Day. Nothing like guilt to force you into new experiences.

I do it every morning now. So you’re probably wondering what I cook on the BBQ grill for breakfast. Well, as you can see in the images, there’s eggs and pancakes. It’s pretty fun to fry an egg and end up with grill marks on it. Same thing with pancakes. But there’s also the hash browns, sausages, bacon, mixed vegetables, and omelettes. With the lid closed you can bake fresh biscuits on your barbecue grill, too.

Obviously this isn’t Just a breakfast device and I do use it when making dinner meals too. I use a grill mat on one side of the barbecue and cook my steaks on the other side. My daughter is still insisting that I try the steaks on the mat too - she says I’ll like them a lot better prepared that way. But the fact is I like them just fine the way I’ve been doing it for forty some years. Anyway, for an old dog to learn one new trick is a big deal. I don’t need to push it.

I’m into the barbecue this summer big time. Later I’ll tell you about a cool new toy I bought from Chef Caron.

Everyone likes barbecue Ribs! Did you understand you can make fantastic tasting, fall off the bone ribs with a piece of equipment you most likely currently have. Yes, the trusty Weber kettle, or any old kettle, sitting in your garage, can be made use of to make excellent tasting barbeque ribs, and it is easy.

Zip-lock bags are ideal for marinating meat prior to grilling. You can even freeze the meats with the marinade, which allows you to do it all more quickly when the time comes.

For men who take pride in a dish well grilled (and you know who they are), take a look at the unique BBQ branding iron by Personal Creations. It can be customized with any three initials. Your other half or the barbecue in your life can just brand name his grilled masterpiece minutes before serving and - voila! Even the chef who has everything probably does not have this!

If it gets chilly in the evenings then you can consider getting some patio area heating systems. They are not expensive to purchase or to run and one basic patio area heating unit can keep an entire group of individuals warm. (By the word ‘basic’ right here, I mean upright, like a lamp post).

Quick cooking is still what Australian BBQ is all about. Australians normally choose flat-top, or open-pit BBQ grills. Trolly Barbies, which are portable grills on wheels, have actually become the most popular outdoor cooking appliances in Australia.

Here’s a bit on brisket. Using an “instant read” meat thermometer regularly, check the internal temperature of the meat. When the meat reaches approximately 140 degrees wrap the brisket in foil and place back on the smoker. At 140 degrees the meat will certainly not take in any more smoke. This should take about 2-3 hours.

If you make use of a folding grill, do not push the lid down too much as you’ll squeeze the meat and force the juices out, which will certainly minimize the flavour and dry the meat. Cooking meat on folding grills takes about half the time that it does to prepare them on an open grill, as they are being prepared on both sides simultaneously. Next up, feedback on my new BBQ Grill Mat set from Chef Caron.

BBQ Pits and Spits

Building a BBQ spit or a BBQ pit is not for the faint of heart. You could just order in and settle down with a nice wine cooler and call it good. Or…

The BBQ Spit

You will certainly need a bbq spit if you want to cook a whole animal. This isn’t the kind of thing you can do on a bbq grill mat. This is serious barbecue stuff, for sure. There are several versions of the bbq spit, not to be confused with the bbq pit, which we’ll discuss in a bit. In essence, the barbecue spit is a rotisserie, handmade or otherwise, that stands over the fire or the grill pit, and you can use it to prepare your meat above the fire. There are several various kinds of BBQ spits for sale, and the one you choose will depend highly on your setup. Many people build their own. It’s a very simple device that only requires a way to hang the animal above the fire and turn it without having it fall off into the fire. Manufactured spits are adjustable in every direction, but you can make a simple one with metal pipe, held up with posts on either end.

The BBQ Pit – notice there’s no “s”

The bbq pit is another thing altogether and is popular in the South Pacific Islands. Obviously it’s popularity has spread to other parts of the world, and everyone has their own take on the best way to do it. I’ve seen several of these, first-hand, and they were all different in their approach. My favorite was the beach barbecue pit. We dug and deep hole in the sand and built an enormous bonfire in it first thing in the morning. after a couple of hours it was all hot coals at least a couple of feet deep. The meat (a whole pig in this case) was wrapped in layers of gunny sacks and huge fresh leaves tied with twine. Once wrapped the pig was soaked down with water and then pushed into the hot coals. The hole was then filled back up with sand with several pipes inserted to allow the fire to breathe just a bit. Late that evening we dug it up. I have never tasted anything like that before or since.

A Simpler Solution

If you’re not into all that work but want some great tasting food you could always just find a good recipe with a nice image that looks appetizing and just make yourself something in the comfort of your own kitchen. Or…

Why Not Just Purchase a BBQ Grill?

If you’re not into building a spit or a pit you could just buy a barbecue. As you know they come in all sizes, shapes and prices. Barbecues aren’t that difficult find these days and you can almost always get a great deal at one of the larger house and garden suppliers. However, the tough part is determining which sort you desire to purchase. There are so many choices. You just need to go look at the options and you’ll know which one you want when you see it. Like with a television set. Let’s take a look at a couple of them.

The Sports Connection

If you are a sports enthusiast, the choice about which barbecue to buy gets a bit simpler. You’ll probably want a portable grill that you can use at home or put it in the back of your vehicle or pickup and head for the ballgame. Tailgating is a fantastic method to add to the fun and excitement of a game. Have fun chatting with family and pals while cooking chicken hotdogs, hamburgers, and wings, or whatever your favorite grill food might be. There is no doubt the odor of outdoor cooking will generate some new good friends who will stop by to comment on how great the food looks and smells and offer their predictions, stories, and camaraderie.

A Great Camping Tool

The portable grill is also a great choice for someone who loves camping. If you get a portable bbq for that purpose be sure to pick up a Chef Caron grilling mat so you can cook breakfast on the grill without lugging any cast iron pans or griddles with you. The grill mats roll up, so you can even carry them in a backpack and they are super easy to clean. It’s way less trouble than cast iron pans or griddles. Trust me on this. Here’s a grill mat twitter site with some great suggestions on that kind of stuff and more.

I Like the Cobb

Another style of grill is the Cobb. If you’ve ever watched the ‘Hairy Bikers’ on TELEVISION you’ll identify the Cobb because they include it in their shows, frequently. These 2 British Chefs have actually traveled the world cooking many different cuisines making use of the Cobb as their cooker of selection. Watching them, you can get an idea of how easy it is to cook on a barbecue grill and how much great food you can actually make with one.

Review of Reviews

I’m the kind of gal that reads reviews before I buy something, and not just a few of them. I read so many reviews that I’ve come to consider myself a review expert. I mean I can spot a fake review a mile away, I can tell when a review is written by the vendor or by a rep from the company and I can tell when it’s written by a competitor. I’ve been thinking about writing a book about reviews and how to sort out the legitimate ones but I’m more of a reader than a writer, so there you go.

That being said, I’ll now inform you that this post is not about reviews. Not specifically, anyway. I was just mentioning it because I’m setting the stage for telling you about a new product I just acquired that’s one of my favorite items I’ve ever purchased on Amazon. So here’s the story.

I had decided to try out a set of those nonstick barbecue grilling mats. I don’t know if you’re familiar with those, but they are these fairly large, flexible fabric mats that you put on the grates of your barbecue and they allow you to cook stuff that would normally just slip through the grates. At least that’s all I knew about them when I started looking into it.

So here I am shopping for these grilling mats and I’m reading review after review. I don’t read the Amazon reviews so much. I mean I read a few of those but most of them are so short and cryptic that they don’t really matter. Here are some examples of that.

Fantastic

Great product!

Couldn’t be happier!

Exceeded my expectations!

You’ve seen those, you know what I’m talking about. You might not realize this, but there are a lot of fake reviews on Amazon because Amazon product rankings are based partially on the number of reviews so sellers will pay people to post reviews for them. Of course, Amazon is almost as good at spotting fake reviews as I am, so they pull a lot of them, but a lot of them survive too. So I look for the ones people spent some time on. Reviews that list the good things and the bad things and that make it clear that they actually used the product enough to be qualified to make comments on its quality.

Back to the subject at hand. So, as I said, I was reading a lot of BBQ grill mat reviews, one after another after another and I was also watching videos. It’s about the videos. What is it with the subject of the barbecue that makes advertisers think they need to yell at you? I mean the barbecue guys are usually big, granted. I mean look at what they eat. But can’t they quietly explain what’s going on? Do they have to shout? I hate that. So here I’m watching these bbq grill mat reviews. So here I’m watching these bbq grill mat reviews on Youtube and these big fat guys are all yelling at me the whole time. It almost made me want to NOT buy a barbecue grill mat at all. Just scrap the whole shopping thing.

But! I finally came across a video that just quietly explained what to look for in a grill mat, how they’re made, how they are all similar and how they differ from one another along with some pointers on how to choose one. Because there are a lot of brands of grill mats available now on Amazon. It’s like everybody decided to private label grill mats and sell them on Amazon. I mean are there any people left to buy them when everybody is selling them? Sorry, I crossed the line into smart-ass, something I had promised myself I wouldn’t do any more.

So if you’re in the market for a grill mat and you’re like me, in that you don’t like a lot of hyped-up advertising, with people shouting at you, then give this video a watch, because it’s short and educational and actually tells you stuff you need to know if you’re looking for a grill mat. https://youtu.be/_JxgHkY8og4

I’m on a personal crusade to put a stop to Shouting in Advertising. So I boycott any product that tries to sell to me with people shouting at me. You know, it’s not just the shouting that gets to me. It’s the total absence of substance. It’s like they have to shout because they don’t have that much to say, and what they do have to say isn’t that amazing so they shout it.

Don’t think for one second that I don’t shout once in a while. But don’t you think shouting should be reserved for emergencies and anger situations? It doesn’t seem appropriate if you’re trying to sell me a washing machine or a mattress. That’s just not a shouting situation. So I’m glad I could get that off my chest. Carry on.

BBQ Grill Mat #2 Caring for your BBQ Accessories
http://bit.ly/BBQGrillMat Granted, a BBQ grill mat doesn't look like much, but appearances can be deceiving. It's really like having an expensive non-stick pan that you can roll up. That's essentially what grill mats are, but you can use both sides. The BBQ Grill Mat requires the same care as any other high-end non-stick cooking utensil. A chef's non-stick cookware will still look new after years of use, and your mats will too, if you learn to use them and maintain them correctly. First of all, remove your grill mats from the box and wash them thoroughly in soap and water to remove any manufacturing and packaging residues. Never use abrasives of any kind when cleaning a barbecue grill mat: no scratch pads or powdered cleaners. Use only water, liquid soap and a soft cloth. Rinse them well, and wipe off the excess water with a dry cloth. Allow them to air-dry until all moisture is gone from the surface. You can use your dishwasher if you prefer -- grill mats are dishwasher-safe, but use the top rack only. Keep your BBQ grill mats rolled up and stored in the box they came in, to protect them from scratching. After washing and drying your new BBQ grill mat set, you're almost ready to put them to use. First though, you'll need some specific tools to use the mats effectively and not damage them. The techniques used with bbq grill mat are a bit different than those used when working directly on the grill. Never use metal tools on the mats. Whenever metal comes into contact with PTFE it leaves scratches which will break down the integrity of the cooking surface. The best tools to use are a set of silicone tipped pincers and a hard plastic spatula, so be sure to acquire those, before you start using the mats. You can find them at any store that offers kitchen implements. Have fun with your new Chef Caron BBQ Grill Mat. BBQ Grill Mat #1 - Choosing Your BBQ Tools
http://bit.ly/BBQGrillMat When it comes to the BBQ Grill Mat "As Seen on TV", the truth can get stretched quite a bit and we'll set the record straight for you in this video. The non-stick BBQ Grill mat has experienced a sizable growth in popularity, and that isn't surprising, considering that it does bring a number of actual conveniences and advantages to the procedure of barbecuing. In essence a BBQ grill mat is a fibreglass fabric, protected by using a non-stick, heat-resistant finish of poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene, also called PTFE. They were made most famous by the now obsolete Miracle grill mat, which was probably the most popular of the as seen on TV grill mats Essential Fact: The FDA allows PTFE-coated grilling equipment to be used only at temps below 500 degrees Farenheit. So virtually any promotions you spot for "Extra High Temperature Mats" or "Military Grade High Heat Mats" or "Industrial Quality 600 degree Mats" are nothing more than advertising gimmicks. You at no time want to use any non-stick cooking equipment at temperatures higher than 500 degrees. So in theory, every barbecue grill mat is essentially alike -- since they're all produced out of the exact same materials. Practically though, there are definitely several crucial dissimilarities to become knowledgeable about when ordering mats. A BBQ Grill Mat can be found in a number of different densities. We have found the ideal thickness to be .20mm. The mats are still light enough to transmit heat promptly, but sufficiently heavy to be long wearing and durable. Yet another big difference is the amount of PTFE coating on the fiberglass material. This is the most reliable indication of mat quality because it affects the resilience of the mat, the slickness of the surface area and the simplicity of cleaning. Double-coated mats are commonly retailed as "Professional or Commercial Quality Mats," and are actually a more durable mat. http://ift.tt/1rSUQF4 You can recognize mat because the minute squares of fiberglass cloth are almost invisible to either sight or touch. You aren't able to detect them and you can't perceive them on the mat's material. On lesser quality mats you can both feel and see the texture of the underlying fiberglass. An additional factor to consider is the dimension of the BBQ grill mat you are purchasing. With a grill mat, bigger is superior because you can cut them to exactly the specifications you want. They normally are available in a 13 inch width, but the length varies from 13 inches up to about 17 inches, so look for the longest mats. And that's really it.
To summarize: any time you are purchasing a BBQ Grill Mat, try to find a large size, double-coated mat at the very least .2 mm thick. And watch out for attention-grabbers that claim to offer extra-heat resistance. This is a four part video series. http://ift.tt/1FhzfsY Let's have a glance at the best means to take care of your new BBQ tools, the Chef Caron BBQ grilling mats. Granted, a grilling mat may not look like much, but appearances may be deceiving. It's really similar to having a pricey non-stick pan that you can roll up. That is quite simply what grill mats are, but they're even better, since with the BBQ grilling mats you can use both sides. The grilling mats require the identical treatment as other high-end non-stick culinary utensil. A chef's non-stick cooking equipment will certainly still look brand new after years of service, and your mats should as well, if you know how to work with them and care for them correctly. First of all, remove your grilling mats from the container and clean them thoroughly in soap and water to remove any manufacturing and packaging debris. Do not use abrasives of any kind when washing the mats: no scratch pads or powdered cleaners. Use only water, liquid soap and a soft cloth. Rinse them well, and soak up the excess water using a soft dry cloth. Allow them to air-dry until all moisture is eliminated from the surface. Keep your BBQ grilling mats rolled and stored in the container they came in, to shield them from damage. Utilize your dishwasher if that is your preference-- grill mats are dishwasher-safe, but use the top rack only. http://ift.tt/1lCJWkA After washing and drying your new BBQ grilling mats you're nearly in position to put them to use. First though, you'll need to get some specific products to make use of the mats efficiently and not damage them. The techniques used with BBQ grill mats are a bit different from those employed when working directly on the grill. Do not make use of metal tools on the BBQ grilling mats. When metal comes into contact with PTFE it leaves scratches and these accumulate eventually and break down the stability of the cooking surface. The most reliable products to use are a set of silicone tipped pincers and a plastic spatula, so make sure to obtain those, before you begin using the BBQ grilling mats. You can find them at any shop that sells kitchen implements.
