Taco Bell, Pizza Hut Join Rush to Simplify Ingredients




Following leads from Panera Bread and other national chains, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell announced they are also simplifying the ingredients in their menu items.

In the case of Pizza Hut, the chain is removing artificial flavors and colors from their nationally available pizzas by the end of July. The company, which has 15,000 restaurants in 90 countries, says they are have already removed trans fats and MSG from their ingredients and is reducing salt. By the end of 2015, 15 percent of Pizza Hut pizzas will have just one third of the daily recommended dietary allowance for sodium and 20 percent of its pizzas will meet that criteria by 2020, the company says.

Pizza Hut also plans introduce a nutrition calculator and allergen tool to its website and mobile app in July.
